In Memory of Retired CDCR Sergeant Rubin Guerra

Born: September 29, 1971
End of Watch: August 27, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Retired California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Sergeant Rubin Guerra due to complications from renal disease.

Sergeant Guerra’s story touched many in our correctional family when it was first shared in April of 2024. A proud second-generation correctional professional, Rubin began his career in 1998 at Deuel Vocational Institution, working alongside his uncle, Correctional Officer John Ruiz. In 2007, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center, where he poured his heart into preparing cadets for the challenges of the profession. His dedication, passion for training, and deep sense of responsibility left a lasting impression on those who had the honor of learning from him.

Though his career was cut short by health complications, Rubin never lost his spirit. He fought through years of dialysis with courage and hope, always looking toward the future and longing for the simple joys of family, travel, and adventure. His journey inspired many across the corrections community, as his family worked tirelessly to find him a kidney donor.

Sadly, while returning from a family vacation, Rubin experienced a sudden medical emergency and passed away surrounded by loved ones. He leaves behind his wife, Alisson, family members, and countless colleagues and friends who will forever remember his strength, compassion, and devotion.

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation extends our heartfelt condolences to the Guerra and Ruiz families. Rubin’s life is a testament to service, resilience, and the enduring bonds of the correctional family. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
