Honoring the Life and Service of FDC Correctional Officer James Jackson

With heavy hearts, the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) joins the Florida Department of Corrections community in mourning the loss of Correctional Officer James Alexander Jackson, who passed away on August 15, 2025, at just 31 years old. Officer Jackson, a resident of Winter Haven, dedicated his career to serving at Hardee Correctional Institution, where his professionalism, strength, and good nature left a lasting impact on those around him.

Remembering Officer James Jackson

Born on September 17, 1993, James Jackson’s journey as a correctional professional was defined by his commitment to learning, his strong work ethic, and his ability to lift the spirits of those around him. His instructors and colleagues recall his determination and smile—qualities that made him a role model to his peers.

One of his academy instructors, Jessica Selph, shared a heartfelt tribute:

“I’m truly blessed to have been one of Officer Jackson’s instructors throughout the academy. He was always up front, ready to learn, and always smiling. When something clicked, he would always say, ‘Oh, oh, ok!’ He made us laugh—even when he came back to the compound. He will truly be missed, but never 10-7. He will always walk with us, no matter where we go. Officer Jackson will ALWAYS have our six.”
