The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) was honored to attend the California Correctional Peace Officers Association’s (CCPOA) 49th Annual Convention, an event that not only brought together correctional professionals from across the state, but also celebrated decades of shared history, resilience, and growth.
A History of Shared Purpose
Since its founding in 1984, CPOF has been deeply connected with the correctional community in California and nationwide. Many of CPOF’s founding members were also leaders in CCPOA, helping to shape both organizations into what they are today—pillars of support for officers and their families. From the beginning, CPOF’s mission has been clear: Taking Care of Our Own. This mission has grown from humble roots into a national foundation that has assisted thousands of correctional staff and their families during times of crisis.
Attending CCPOA’s annual convention serves as a reminder of these roots. It is an opportunity to honor the visionaries who built both organizations and to carry forward the names and legacies of the fallen officers whose sacrifices are the heart of CPOF’s work.
Celebrating Community at the 49th Convention
This year’s convention was a powerful demonstration of solidarity. Over the course of the week, we had the privilege of connecting with more than 400 CPOF members from across California. We also proudly welcomed over 60 new members into the CPOF family—officers and staff who are committed to standing with their brothers and sisters in corrections.
Beyond numbers, the convention was about relationships. Our team had the chance to sit down with catastrophic assistance recipients and their families—listening to their stories, sharing in their journeys, and reaffirming our commitment to walk alongside them. These conversations are at the very core of CPOF’s existence, reminding us why we work so tirelessly to ensure no correctional family faces tragedy alone.
Gratitude for Hospitality
We extend our deepest thanks to CCPOA for their hospitality and partnership. Their staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the convention’s success, and their dedication to supporting correctional professionals mirrors CPOF’s own mission. Together, our organizations continue to serve as a lifeline for correctional officers and their families, ensuring they are supported, honored, and remembered.
Looking Ahead
As CPOF looks to the future, events like CCPOA’s annual convention inspire us to grow, strengthen, and expand our reach. We encourage correctional staff across the country to invite us to their tables. Each opportunity to connect is a chance to bring more officers into the fold and extend the safety net of compassion that CPOF provides.
The 49th Annual Convention was more than a gathering; it was a celebration of solidarity, history, and shared commitment. With gratitude for our past and hope for the future, CPOF proudly continues its mission of Taking Care of Our Own.
